Capitol Hill Community Achievement Awards
Each Spring, the Great Hall of the Folger Shakespeare Library is the scene of a gala dinner and awards ceremony where Capitol Hill neighbors come together to honor three individuals whose distinguished service to our community has benefited us all. Through the generosity of the Folger and the individuals and
businesses who support this event, funds are raised each year to support the Foundation's Community Grants and projects.

The 2008 honorees are Emily Guthrie, Executive Director of the Capitol Hill Group Ministry since 1999, Gary Peterson, Chair of the Eastern Market Fund of the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and past president of the Capitol HIll Restoration Society and chair of its Zoning Committee, and Dan Tangherlini, current D.C. City Administrator and past director of the D.C. Department of Transportation.

The Capitol Hill Community Achievement Awards Dinner was founded in 1984 by a group of community leaders as a benefit for the Holistic Health Center at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation. When the center closed, our foundation became the beneficiary of the event and in 1993 we became the sponsor as well. In recognition of the early leadership of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, an annual $10,000 grant to a community organization is awarded at the dinner in the name of Dr. Arnold Keller, Jr., pastor emeritus of the church. The 2008 Keller Award will be presented to the Capitol Hill Village to support its 'Membership Plus' program which extends the organization's activities and services to neighborhood residents who might not otherwise be able to afford them. The Capitol Hill Village was formed in 2007 by a group of community residents to help neighbors stay in their homes as they grow older.

The 25th annual Capitol Hill Community Achievement Awards Dinner will be held on May 14, 2008.
