BluesWorks
BluesWorks' music is a tasty gumbo of a variety of American blues with a dash of jazz and world rhythms. Co-founders Judy Luis-Watson & Paul Watson may lead a traditional blues song or a new one they have written, and it may be a New Orleans swamp boogie, ragtime, or a jazzy blues. With piano, harmonica, mandolin, and heart-felt vocals, Blues Works infuses the acoustic blues with a modern sensibility. A virtuoso on the harmonica and one of the rare blues mandolin players performing today, Watson draws inspiration from the legendary Howard Armstrong. Luis-Watson puts fire and soul into her mastery of the piano. With their heart-stirring vocals, the duo is known to "transform the performance space into one of those out-of-the-way, old time juke joints." They often collaborate with renowned area musicians.

Magpie
Magpie -- Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner - are one of the best-loved acoustic duos in the nation. Their eclectic repertoire ranges from traditional, classic country, swing, and blues of the 1920s and 1930s to contemporary songs written by themselves and others. Terry is a gifted singer of jazz and blues in the tradition of Connie Boswell and Billie Holiday, but is equally comfortable with the subtle beauty of traditional folk and contemporary songs. Terry is also an excellent player of the harmonica, mandolin, fretted dulcimer, and rhythm guitar. Greg is an outstanding guitarist whose fingerstyle approach owes a lot to his heroes, guitar legends such as Reverend Gary Davis, Big Bill Broonzy, Nick Lucas, and Phil Ochs. Over the years, Terry and Greg have become distinguished for producing programs of music for museums (including the Smithsonian Institution), schools, and other special events. They are master artists with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, and have developed several special school programs including two on the environment and others on historical themes such as the Great Depression and the 1960s. Awards include a Wammie for traditional folk duo in 1998, the 1999 Addy award for their song "Take Me Back to Harpers Ferry," and their soundtrack for the video by the same title, continuously shown at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park's Visitor Center. Magpie has numerous recordings.
