Tom Mitchell and Robert Redd
Tom Mitchell is a hard driving swing/jazz
guitar player and singer. His "true to style" interpretations make him
a much sought-after performer and teacher. Since 1993, Mitchell has
been touring with the legendary recording artist Dan Hicks and his Hot
Licks. He plays guitar on "Beatin' The Heat" -- Time magazine named
it one of the "10 CD's of the Year" and Rolling Stone gave it 3-1/2
stars. Around the DC metro area, Mitchell performs on acoustic and electric
guitar with various combos like Blue Rhythm Boys (his acoustic group
with Jim Stephanson and Ralph Gordon inspired by the hot guitar jazz
and blues of the 20's and 30's), Brooks Tegler's Hot Jazz, and Lindy
Hop Heaven, favorites of the East coast dance circuit. In 2007, he was
nominated for a Wammie in the jazz vocalist category by the Washington
Area Music Association. Robert Redd and his brother Chuck Redd co-lead
a group and Robert appears often as a free-lance musician at Blues Alley
with local and national artists. He often works as a member of the Keter
Betts Quartet, and has performed with the Smithsonian Masterworks Ensemble.
He worked often as a member of the Charlie Byrd Trio, and appears on
the latest Charlie Byrd CD. From 1995 to 1998, he was pianist and musical
director for singer/songwriter Kenny Rankin. He is currently on the
music faculty at Montgomery College.
