Rick Franklin & Friends
Rick Franklin brings a big dose of humor to his boisterous mix of Piedmont, 1920s and 1930s blues, and ragtime music. For more than 20 years, Franklin has been playing and singing the blues at local festivals and community events, as well as at various clubs and cafes in the Washington, DC area. In addition to the blues, Franklin is an aficionado of everything from African high life, Brazilian batucada and samba to reggae and zydeco; musical idioms which, like the blues, reflect the considerable contribution of the African heritage to the musical scene. Rick Franklin's recording with Mike Baytop, "Searching for Frank," was nominated by the Washington Area Music Association for a 2007 Wammie as best blues recording. For this performance, he is joined by some of the area's best acoustic blues musicians.

Dead Men's Hollow
Combining bluegrass and gospel, the harmonies and instrumentation of Dead Men's Hollow have been compared to the Carters, John Jackson, and Ralph Stanley. The Washington Area Music Association awarded the group two Wammies in 2008 - for best bluegrass group and best bluegrass recording; the recording "Death Must Be a Woman" was also nominated for record design. Amy Nazarov (a Capitol Hill resident) provides high harmonies and lead vocals on many of the band's tunes. With her music degree, Belinda Hardesty has performed everything from medieval to jazz music on everything from recorder to bari sax to voice. She's performed with the Akron Symphony Chorus, the Hiram College Madrigal Singers, and numerous other groups. Jared Creason has played bass in everything from rock and country bar bands to semi-pro symphony orchestras. Caryn Fox has been singing since she was a small child. In high school, musicals were her love as she often performed in several shows a year. When Marcy Cochran decided to take up fiddling six years ago, she packed up her great grandfather's fiddle and headed to fiddle camp in Nashville. Mike Clayburg studies guitar and learns the language of Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, John Hurt, and occasionally, Clarence White.
