Shackbreakers
Blending blues and country, the Shackbreakers bring an undeniable edge to their music with finger lickin' treatments of tunes by the likes of Memphis Minnie, Hank Williams, Charley Patton, Lonnie Johnson and more. Eleanor Ellis combines the rich musical heritage of her native Louisiana with a powerful attraction to the music of the old country blues masters. The result is a style of vocals and guitar that blends individual interpretation and expression with a feeling and intensity reminiscent of the originals -- such as Memphis Minnie, Mance Lipscomb, Sleepy John Estes, and Skip James -- who have been her musical inspiration. In 2007, she was nominated for Wammies as best blues vocalist and her CD "Coming a Time" as best blues recording by the Washington Area Music Association. Mike Baytop, President of the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation. An accomplished guitar and harmonica player, he was influenced by his mentor and friend, Archie Edwards, and learned to play bones from world-renowned Richard "Mr. Bones" Thomas. His CD with Rick Franklin, "Searching for Frank," was also nominated for a 2007 Wammie as best blues recording. Steve Levine is an in-demand harmonica player, working with many Washington area bands including Big Daddy and The Resonators. On standup bass is Tom Cox, who brings his wide musical tastes and talents to many area groups.
