Dead Men's Hollow
Combining bluegrass and gospel, this band's
harmonies and instrumentation have been compared to the Carters, John
Jackson, and Ralph Stanley. Amy Nazarov provides high harmonies and
lead vocals on many of the band's tunes. She lives on Capitol Hill.
With her music degree, Belinda Hardesty has performed everything from
medieval to jazz music on everything from recorder to bari sax to voice.
She's performed with the Akron Symphony Chorus, the Hiram College Madrigal
Singers, and numerous other groups. Jared Creason has played bass in
everything from rock and country bar bands to semi-pro symphony orchestras.
Caryn Fox has been singing since she was a small child. In high school,
musicals were her love as she often performed in several shows a year.
When Marcy Cochran decided to take up fiddling six years ago, she packed
up her great grandfather's fiddle and headed fiddle camp in Nashville.
Mike Clayburg studies guitar and learning the language of Maybelle Carter,
Doc Watson, Norman Blake, John Hurt, and occasionally, Clarence White.
Dead Men's Hollow was nominated for 2007 Wammie in the bluegrass category
by the Washington Area Music Association.

Magpie
Magpie -- Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner
- are one of the best-loved acoustic duos in the nation. Their eclectic
repertoire ranges from traditional, classic country, swing, and blues
of the 1920s and 1930s to contemporary songs written by themselves and
others. Terry is a gifted singer of jazz and blues in the tradition
of Connie Boswell and Billie Holiday, but is equally comfortable with
the subtle beauty of traditional folk and contemporary songs. Terry
is also an excellent player of the harmonica, mandolin, fretted dulcimer,
and rhythm guitar. Greg is an outstanding guitarist whose fingerstyle
approach owes a lot to his heroes, guitar legends such as Reverend Gary
Davis, Big Bill Broonzy, Nick Lucas, and Phil Ochs. Over the years,
Terry and Greg have become distinguished for producing programs of music
for museums (including the Smithsonian Institution), schools, and other
special events. They are master artists with the Wolf Trap Institute
for Early Learning Through the Arts, and have developed several special
school programs including two on the environment and others on historical
themes such as the Great Depression and the 1960s. Awards include a
Wammie for traditional folk duo in 1998, the 1999 Addy award for their
song "Take Me Back to Harpers Ferry," and their soundtrack for the video
by the same title, continuously shown at the Harpers Ferry National
Historical Park's Visitor Center. Magpie has numerous recordings.
