We’re putting your dollars to work. Twice a year the Capitol Hill Community Foundation gives financial grants to a wide variety of groups who work to make our neighborhood a better place to live. This fall we distributed a total of $142,000 through 60 such gifts in four categories: school-based and after-school programs; social service programs; arts and recreation; and beautification and enhancement of the neighborhood. Some examples:

  • A grant that’s helping students at two neighborhood schools produce a Shakespeare play at the Folger Theatre.
  • Help with materials for local students reproducing historic quilts that illustrate U.S. westward expansion.
  • Funding to help put food on the table for low-income Hill residents.
  • Support for the annual production of the Hip-Hop Nutcracker.

Special Focus: 2007 Fundraising Campaign
Did you receive a fundraising letter? Would you like to receive one? Have you responded? As you make your year-end charitable giving decisions, don’t forget the organization that’s done so much for the community you love – from helping Eastern Market merchants and their employees survive a devastating fire, to totally renovating eight of our public school libraries, to providing critical funding for dozens of other special projects, programs and charitable causes here on Capitol Hill. And remember, every dollar you give to this foundation goes right back into the community. All operating expenses are paid by members of our board. The Capitol Hill Community Foundation has been helping to build a stronger, kinder, more vibrant community for nearly 20 years, but we can’t do any of this without your support. So please respond to the letter you received, ask us to send you a letter, visit our website to contribute on-line, or just click the link at the bottom of this newsletter. Thanks!
