Special Grants

From time to time, the Foundation is approached about a unique opportunity to support a project that benefits the Capitol Hill community but falls outside our typical grant-making schedule. Below is a short list of these grants and a synopsis of their impact.

2019 · TYLER SCHOOL - TEACHING KITCHEN

2019 · CAPITOL HILL VILLAGE - OFFICE INFRASTRUCTURE

2018 · CAPITOL HILL BID - READY, WILLING & WORKING

Some ideas are just too good to pass up. Normally, the Capitol Hill Community Foundation offers only one Keller Grant each year. In 2018, we partnered with our underwriter National Capital Bank to offer a second significant grant of $20,000 to the GED (General Educational Development) program created by Ready, Willing & Working (RWW).

Most Capitol Hill residents know the “men in blue.” Since 2003, the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (BID) has provided street cleaning teams and safety ambassadors to the neighborhood. Fewer people know that behind the BID lies RWW – a nonprofit founded by Patty Brosmer that offers training and support to men with histories of incarceration and substance addiction.

RWW’s goals stretch beyond just getting these men a solid BID job. They aim to help them find economic stability. The GED program funded by this grant is designed to help the men in blue get their educational certification and move on to lifelong careers, freeing up highly sought-after space in the RWW program for new men in blue.
