we draw on the generosity and idealism of

our neighbors

The Capitol Hill Community Foundation draws on the generosity and idealism of our neighborhood to help build a stronger and more caring community — a place where families can flourish and every resident can share in a better future.

We support activities, projects, and organizations that enrich the lives of residents and celebrate the history of our Capitol Hill community. Since its founding in 1989, the Foundation has directed more than $6.6 million to a broad range of projects.

The generosity of our community has enabled the Foundation to provide seed money for new efforts, support worthy community programs and organizations, and also undertake important initiatives for our neighborhood.

We have also launched some major initiatives, including a thriving neighborhood history project; an awards program honoring individuals for distinguished service to our community; the renovation of eight school libraries; the Eastern Market Fund to help meet urgent needs after the devastating fire on April 30, 2007; Shakespeare at School: A Folger Shakespeare Library George Didden Memorial Project; and A Literary Feast, a series of literary themed dinners.

Please join us by contributing today or by applying for a grant. Together we’re making Capitol Hill a better place to live, for all of us. We thank you for your continued generous support of the community we love. For more information, download our brochure.

The work is tangible and immediate. Unlike other similar organizations, [the Foundation] is capable of responding to community needs in real time, and is able to provide targeted and cost-effective response to worthy requests.
